~*The Barbie Diaries*~ ROCKS! December 28, 2005 Christopher (Happy, yay) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Summer is over...Barbie and her friends navigate the perils of self-discovery. At the dawn of a new school year, Barbie wants big changes, and with the aid of her new magic bracelet, things really do start to happen--she starts a band "CHARMZ" and learns to rock, makes new friends, got a secret admirer and even captures the eye of her crush Todd, the most popular boy in school!...
The ANIMATION is ah-mazing and the MUSIC is so totally Ah-Mazing! This movie shows girls or boys that are pre-teens how Middle School and High school is like, trust me I've been there and done that. These are SERIOUS issues that pre-teens might face when they face these situations. Being popular, being cool, being bad, and being someone else is what most teens want these days because let's say it, We all hate to be LEFT OUT and be ALONE or feel like we are LOSERS (Which we truly aren't inside). I wouldn't recommend this movie to children under the age of 8. Only to the ones that are going to head to Middle School or High School. In the movie, Barbie's #1 wish on her wish list is to 'Get Noticed'. Barbie tries to be cool and keeps her REAL profile pretty low, she tries to fit in because everyone thinks she's a outkast with good grades and likes to study a lot, but later on...Instead of 'trying to be cool', Barbie starts a band with her two friends "Tia" and "Courtney", called "CHARMZ".
Barbie's #2 wish on her wish list is to 'Go Out With Todd'. Now Todd is known as the "Hottest Guy in School". He once drove Barbie home from school and is Todd her secret admirer??? Everyone, Barbie has an enemy in this movie it's Raquelle. Raquelle is the beautiful, popular, but she is a MEAN Girl and she tries to get most of the spotlight at school. Raquelle is also known as the "Queen Of Mean" in school. Raquelle has some problems of her own too! Like for example, since she's known as one of the most popular teens, she has to always be ON TOP, be #1 and it's pretty hard for her because there's another way to be #1, but she's SCARED to be herself! Oh yeah, and She soon steals Barbie's #3 wish, 'Be A News Anchor'!
The SPECIAL WIDESCREEN DVD contains a lot of fun extras! Like the talented rocker, Skye Sweetnam's music video "This Is Me" and her interview about the movie. There's a "OutTakes/Bloopers" area where you can see the characters mess up their lines. Also a Karaoke with Juke Box, so your little girl or boy can sing to the rockin' songs in this movie and to have more fun, there's a "Cootie Catcher Fortune Teller Game"!
***There's also a PEN and a SPECIAL DIARY that your little girl or boy will totally LOVE! (I LUV IT)
You might think that Barbie has copied the "Bratz Rock Angelz" because of the ROCK music and all, but "The Barbie Diaries" movie can really change people on how they see their self, others, and the world. Anyone who sees this movie can LEARN SO many things! There are SO much good reasons. Like for example, you should stand out from the crowd and be true to yourself. Don't forget the ones that are always there for you and always think what your best pals did for you before you ditch them. Life isn't about being cool and having the coolest stuff. If you want to be popular, you have to do it the right way. That means you have to be yourself, show people your talents or what you love, and being REAL to others. I mean, it's GOOD TO BE ALIVE! If you know who you are then that's the best thing! Remember to not follow others, set out your own future and if ANYONE brings you down in a very cruel way, you have to stay strong and hold on, you are SO much better than the mean things THEY say and maybe those MEAN people are having bad days, that's why they tease people or they aren't getting enough attention at home, so they use SCHOOL to get the attention (So you should also try to be friends with the MEAN people and try to change them into a BETTER PERSON!) So PLEASE EVERYONE! ~Don't be a Fake, BE REAL~...
++P.S. = If you LOVE the songs in this movie, GET THE SOUNDTRACK!
Brilliant Movie for an older audience December 5, 2006 Mr. Andrew J. Plummer (UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Im 24, i love Barbie and i love Teen Chick Flicks... so this Movie was all i could wish for and more! Loved it. im a big kid inside. but this movie has more of an adult feel to it. its very teen chick flick in the style of such movies as "A Cinderella Story" with Hilary Duff.
Its a great story about the meaning of friendship and a magic diary. The film really gives an important message.. that you dont have to have a magic diary to make things happen. if you Believe you can do it, you can! Its a heart warming movie.. with amazing DIGITAL Animation! Compared the other other Barbie movies the digital animation is STUNNING! Barbie's hair is gorgeous. every strand moves. unlike in the other barbie movies where it only moves as one whole piece of hair. The music was alright to. i liked the songs. quite catchy, surprisingly. very Hilary Duff style. Wonderful colourful movie. i loved it to bits!
One of the BEST Barbie Movies EVER! Gotta LUV IT! December 28, 2005 Christopher (Happy, yay) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful

One amazing movie May 13, 2006 A. Mulholland (Clackamas,OR USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Call me nuts and a dork or even call me childish.. Being 21 and still into barbies is fun.. Only difference is i dont play with barbie dolls i just collect them.. When i heard about this movie and seeing the previews i know i had to add it to my collection.. Its a great movie and it really has a great message that we all need to remember.. Just because we would like to fit in doesnt always mean its a great idea.. It can have its ups and down.. The music for the movie is awesome.. The graphics are out of this world amazing.. Although it couldve had a better storyline and some of the outtakes shouldve been used because they were awesome.. Only thing dumb out the DVD is a special feature called 'Kevins Paper Clip Movie Featurette'.. So i dont give to much away all i can say dont take my word for it see this movie for yourself.. ta ta for now..
Great for the Middle School/Pre Teen Girl August 24, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
First off I would like to say that I am over the age of 13 and since I do not use Amazon to make purchases I cannot write a review under my account. So, anyway back to the review. I first heard of this movie coicidently as I was finishing up MY sophmore year. Since I am still a Barbie fan at the age of 15, 16 in October, when I stumbled upon it in Blockbuster I decided to rent it. I do watch all the Barbie, MyScene, and Bratz movies as my total guilty pleasures and most of them have been enjoyable in one way or another. I must say that this movie is would probably be more appreciated by the girls going into/are currently in middle school. Not because of the content, but because of the plot and situations. Not that they are inappropriate. There are no "Barbies Gone Wild," but a 5 year old just may not find high school very interesting. In that case I reccomend the other Barbie movies that mattel has put out. They are obviously for the younger fans. Now the plot of this movie is pretty much 1/2 Mean Girls, 1/2 Princess Diares (if you couldn't tell by the name), and a pinch of Freaky Friday (the Band aspect). Obviously this movie won't be up for any Oscars, but is still rather enjoyable despite its pradictability. If you see the movie you'll know what I mean. Thought the fans its aimed towards may not be able to predict the ending. The movie basically starts out with Barnie and her 3 closest friends talking about their hopes for their sophmore year. The movie continues with the 4 friends simply trying to achieve their expectations of this year. Until Barbie sets off on a mission to find out what makes the popular kids popular for a chance to be the school T.V. station's anchor which she has to battle the current anchor, her arch nemisis/most popular girl in school Raquell, for. In between all of this she also is "crushing" on big man on campus/football star Todd, who is also dateing Raquell. Yes it is cliche, but at least Raquell isn't head cheerleader. And they even mention that its cliche in the movie which I giggled at. Anyway Barbie still has time to be the best science student in her class, help her friend Tia with her class president campaign, and try to get her band "Carmz" to play the "Fall Formal" which I am sure the the equivalent to a Home Comming Dance. Well, the movie starts to turn into Mean Girls whem Barbie realizes just how shallow popularity is and decides to expose that in her news story. She then decides she must become a full fledged member of the popular girls. She suceeds, but becomes to wrapped up in glitz and glamour of popularity and forgets about her best friends. Now you see what I mean when I say Mean Girls? Well I don't want ot give away the rest. All of this is narrorated by Barbie as she tells the whole story to her diary. (Princess Diaries much? It also reminds me of the Nickolodeon show As Told By Ginger.) Now I've left out alot of aspects of the story so I encourage you to see the movie. As sophmore year surviver I'd say that I related to the movie to a certain degree. In my school there isn't a certain group of "popular girls" but there are girls like Raquelle. I've definately been in a similar situation in which a girl I couldn't stand got the thing I wanted. In my case it was Editor of the school's Literay Magazine, but thats not important. I also keep a diary and I like how this movie is encouraging it. Its a great way for girls AND boys to express themselves and get out frustration with out hurting other or their feelings. The soundtrack was catchy, but I can't say its my type of music. Although I didn't expect their to be any Black Sabboth, Sex Pistols, or The Smiths playing. Definately better than Lindsey Lohan, Britney Spears ,Hilary Duff,or Ashlee Simpson. So I must say I am pleased about that. All in all its a great movie for the preteen/middle school girl, but the younger set may enjoy it too. I reccomend checking it out!
